“Book of Shadows – Sweep (Book 1) ” Cate Tiernan
Morgan Rowlands never thought she was anything other than a typical sixteen-year-old girl. But when she meets Cal, a captivatingly handsome coven leader, she makes a discover that turns her whole world upside down: she is a witch, descended from an ancient and powerful line. And so is Cal. Their connection is immediate and unbreakable; Cal teases out Morgan’s power, her love, her magick. But Morgan discovers too soon that her powers are strong, almost too powerful to control. And she begins to suspect that Cal may be keeping secrets from her . . . secrets that could destroy them both. (Amazon)
I picked up the first book of the Sweep series from the library thinking it would be an easy read and maybe have some angsty teenage drama and hint of sexual tension. It was an easy read, and pretty good with the Wiccan aspect as well (say, better then Charmed or similar).
Some of it rubbed me the wrong way. Like how the hunky new guy, Cal, invites his new friends to a ‘party’, only to tell them he was Wiccan and wanted them all to participate in a Wiccan ritual. Doesn’t seem very Wiccan! And the main character, Morgan, who finds out that she is some super awesome powerful witch without even trying. And then Cal seems to put Morgan’s best friend under a spell to get her into bed?
So although not perfect, Book of Shadows was a good wiccan-related young adult novel. I would read other books in the series.
